The Quaker Oats Company, a division of PepsiCo., has roots in the late nineteenth century. In 1877, the Chicago-based company registered a trademark for its Quaker breakfast cereal. Since then, Quaker has added ready-to-eat cereals, snack bars and rice snacks to its product line. Several Quaker foods contain a heart-healthy rating by the Food and Drug Administration, which verified a link between oatmeal and lower cholesterol levels.
Oatmeal
Quaker Oats' familiar cylindrical oatmeal box first appeared on grocery shelves in 1915. The company sells traditional old-fashioned oats, as well as varieties such as Quaker 1-Minute Quick Oats, steel-cut oats and organic oats. In 1966, the company developed instant oatmeal as consumers sought quicker, more convenient food. Other Quaker oatmeal types include high-fiber oatmeal, lower-sugar oatmeal and weigh-control oatmeal.
Snack Bars
Quaker introduced its chewy granola bars in 1981 and produces more than 11 variations on the basic bar. Consumers choose from granola bars with 25 percent less sugar, a multi-grain feature, added protein, added fiber and omega-3 or 90-calorie bars. Oatmeal-to-Go Cafe Squares and Simple Harvest bars cater to consumers looking for a quick takeout breakfast or midday snack. Granola bar varieties also include Chewy Dipps, which are covered in chocolate, or True Delights, which include added fruit and nut flavors such as dark chocolate raspberry.
Cereals
Quaker branched out into ready-to-eat cereals with its Life Cereal brand in 1961. The company's cereal line also includes Oatmeal Squares, Puffed Wheat, King Vitaman, Honey Graham Ohs, Puffed Rice, Crunchy Corn Bran, Simple Harvest and Natural Granola.
Rice Snacks
The company produces Quaker Rice Cakes in flavors such as apple cinnamon, caramel corn and cheddar cheese, as well as Quakes' bite-sized rice cakes. Other snack foods include Tortillaz, a nacho cheese snack chip, and Multi-grain Fiber Crisps. Quaker Mini Delights are 90-calorie packs of small, chocolate-drizzled rice snacks.
Other Products
Quaker Oats also makes and sells its own brand of grits, breakfast cookies, granola bites, oatmeal pancake mix and tortilla mix. The company's Kretschmer Wheat Germ, which contains the wheat kernel, can be added to foods for extra vitamin E and folic acid.
