The town of Ludlow, Vermont is an outdoor lovers paradise. Ludlow features hiking, skiing and golf, all surrounded by Vermont's breathtaking Green Mountains. This area provides plenty of year-round activities for visitors to choose from to keep them busy from sunup to sunset.
Skiing
According to the Okemo Mountain website, in winter 2009-2010, SKI Magazine ranked Okemo ski resort in the top three ski resorts in the East. From early November through late April, skiers can enjoy 632-acres of terrain with 119 slopes. Slopes range in difficulty to accommodate all skiing levels from advanced to novice. The resort has 19 lifts. In addition to slopes and trails, Okemo has a superpipe and six terrain parks.
Golf
Vermont's first Heathland-style golf course is located in Ludlow. The Okemo Valley Golf Course is an 18-hole championship public course. This valley course features dips, rolls, hollows and ripples, all surrounded by the Green Mountains. The course is a par 70 and is 6,400 yards long. The course has clubs for rent and allows you to play either 18 or 9 holes. Appropriate golf attire is required.
Hiking
The trails around Ludlow provide some of the best views of the Black River Valley and Green Mountains. Easily access the best trails from the base of Okemo Mountain or at the Jackson Gore base. Recommended trails include the Healdville Trail, which climbs to the summit of Okemo Mountain. This hike is 5.9 miles round trip and takes approximately half a day. Along the trail you can explore a fire tower, several lookouts and at the top you have sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and valley.
Parks
Located on West Hill is the West Hill Recreational Area. Here you will find a lakefront beach that is ideal for swimming, playing games and relaxing. In the park there are two basketball courts, a sheltered picnic area, an in-line hockey rink, hiking trails and several playing fields. The recreational area rents soccer balls, footballs, basketballs, in-line skates and horseshoes.
Farmers Market
Stop by the Ludlow Farmers Market to grab some fresh local produce. This market is held every Friday outside the Okemo Mountain School from May through October. The market features locally raised produce, herbs, flowers, cheeses, maple syrup, artisanal products, baked goods, meat, poultry, eggs and crafts.
