According to the Mayo Clinic, the most common causes of hair loss and thinning hair are hormonal changes and hair follicle damage. While hair loss is a common part of aging, it can be embarrassing for some people. However, there are some simple, natural treatments that can help slow the process. Though supporters of these treatments claim that they work, these claims are not supported by the FDA, so you should consult your doctor before beginning any home treatment.

Egg Yolks and Olive Oil

According to Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care," a mixture of egg yolks and olive oil is often used to help treat thinning hair and to help hair grow faster than usual. To use egg yolks and olive oil for thinning hair, mix 2 egg yolks and 4 tbsp. of olive oil in a small measuring cup or bowl and beat the mixture until you reach a uniform consistency, about 1 to 2 minutes. Gently massage the mixture onto the scalp and roots of the hair in the shower or bathtub for 3 to 5 minutes. Leave the mixture on the hair and scalp for approximately 10 minutes before rinsing with cool water and washing your hair with a gentle shampoo. Let your hair dry naturally after washing. This treatment can be repeated daily as long as no irritation to the scalp or skin occurs. Make sure you use olive oil that is 100 percent natural, as products that contain soybean oil or other types of oils mixed in may not be as effective.

Egg Yolks and Lime Juice

According to Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies," a mixture of egg yolks and lime juice can be used on the scalp and roots of the hair to help hair grow faster and slow the thinning process. To use egg yolks and lime juice, mix 2 egg yolks and 3 tbsp. all-natural lime juice in a small container and beat for about 1 minute. Gently massage the mixture onto the scalp and roots of the hair with a towel around your shoulders and leave the mixture on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse your hair with cool water in shower and then wash with a gentle cleanser to remove any sugar from the lime juice. Let your hair dry naturally after washing. This treatment can be done daily as long as there is no irritation to the scalp or skin.

Whole Eggs and Flaxseed Oil

According to Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care," a mixture of whole eggs and flaxseed oil can be used on the scalp to help slow the rate of hair loss. To use whole eggs and flaxseed oil, mix 2 whole eggs with 2 tbsp. flaxseed oil in a small container or measuring cup and whisk together for 1 to 2 minutes. Gently massage the mixture onto the scalp and leave the mixture on for 15 to 20 minutes with a towel wrapped around your shoulders to keep the mixture off your skin. Rinse your hair with lukewarm water and wash with a gentle shampoo. Let your hair dry naturally without blow drying. This treatment can be repeated daily as long as it does not irritate your scalp or skin.
