According to the Mayo Clinic, the most common treatments for hair loss and hair growth include medications like Finasteride, Minoxidil and steroid treatments, as well as hair transplants and medical scalp reduction. While these treatments have shown results, they are quite expensive and often invasive. However, there are some natural remedies for hair growth that can also help you to re-grow hair and increase natural hair growth. These remedies have not been evaluated by the FDA for effectiveness, so you should consult your doctor before beginning any new treatment.
Lime Juice, Olive Oil and Tea Tree Oil
According to Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care," a mixture of lime juice, olive oil and tea tree oil can help to grow hair by stimulating and cleansing the scalp and roots of the hair. To use lime juice, olive oil and tea tree oil for hair growth, mix 2 tbsps. lime juice, 3 tbsps. olive oil and 2 tbsps. tea tree oil in a small container and stir with a stirrer or tablespoon to combine. Gently massage the mixture into the scalp and roots of the hair for two to three minutes. Leave the mixture on the scalp and roots of the hair for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing the scalp with cool water. Wash your hair with a gentle cleanser and pat dry without using a blow dryer. This process can be repeated daily as long as it does not irritate your scalp. Note that Sachs recommends using all natural products, as those with added ingredients may not be as effective, and in some cases, they may irritate the scalp or skin.
Almond Paste and Lemon Juice
A mixture of almond paste and lemon juice is a common folk remedy for treating hair loss and helping new hair grow at a faster rate. To use almond paste and lemon juice for hair growth, combine 3 tbsps. unsalted, raw almonds with 2 tbsps. lemon juice in a blender or food processor and blend until the mixture forms a smooth paste. Gently massage the paste into the scalp and wrap a towel around your shoulders. Leave the mixture on your scalp for 30 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water and washing with a gentle shampoo and moisturizing conditioner. Let your hair dry naturally without using a blow dryer. This treatment can be repeated every day as needed.
Tomato Pulp, Lime Juice and Rosemary Essential Oil
According to Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies," a mixture of tomato pulp, lime juice and rosemary essential oil can be used on the scalp and roots of hair follicles to help stimulate hair growth. To use tomato pulp, lime juice and rosemary essential oil, mix 1 whole tomato, 3 tbsps. lime juice and 1/2 tsp. rosemary essential oil in a blender or food processor and puree until smooth. Gently massage the mixture into the scalp for three to four minutes. Leave the mixture in your hair for 10 to 12 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water and shampooing with a gentle cleanser. This remedy can be used daily as needed and unused portions of the mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for two to three days.
