Prostate Cancer Indications

Cancer is an abnormal process in a person's cells. A continuous growth of cells occurs even if they are not needed and old cells don't die when they should. As a result, extra cells form a mass called a tumor, which can be malignant or benign. Malignant cells are cancerous. Cancers are named from the location in which they start.
The National Cancer Institute reports that prostate cancer is the most common type in men. It occurs in a gland that is part of the male reproductive system. Located below the bladder, it produces semen that nourishes and serves as the passageway of sperm. During its early stage, signs and symptoms of prostate cancer may not be detected. To those who do have them, the following are the most common symptoms of prostate cancer.

Urinary Problems

Tumor in the prostate causes the prostate gland to enlarge; thus, it tightens around the urethral area, making it difficult to urinate. Urinary problems may include inability to pass urine or the need to urinate often. In addition, patients suffering from prostate cancer may have a burning sensation during urination and may have a weak flow of urine.

Pain in The Pelvic Area and Swelling in The Legs

Due to the tumor formed within the gland, the prostate tightens, causing discomfort in that area, which may include bone pain.
Because the patient with prostate cancer is experiencing urinary incontinence, there will be a fluid imbalance. Excess fluids that are not excreted will shift, causing the legs to swell.

Blood in Urine and/or Semen

Blood in urine, also called hematuria, is a dangerous sign. It often means that there is already a problem in the kidney and may be associated with infection around the area. The patient is advised to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
