Eczema is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by dryness and itching that occurs frequently in children. When eczema flare-ups begin, blisters may form and break open to form a scaly appearance, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Although incurable, eczema can be treated through homeopathic means. Always consult your dermatologist before treating eczema with homeopathy and keep in mind that this form of treatment has not been studied thoroughly. There is little scientific evidence that homeopathy is effective and should not take the place of conventional medical practice.
Step 1
Mix a cupful of colloidal oatmeal into a lukewarm bath and allow your child to soak in the bath for up to 15 minutes, according to Kathy Foulser, N.D., a naturopathic doctor at the Ridgefield Center for Integrative Medicine in Connecticut. Colloidal oatmeal provides relief from the itching and oozing associated with eczema.
Step 2
Give your child 500 milligrams daily of evening primrose oil for 12 weeks, recommends Michael Gazsi, N.D., a naturopathic doctor in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Evening primrose oil comes in liquid and gel cap form and contains gamma-linolenic acid, or GLA essential for forming prostaglandins. These are hormone like substances that control inflammation naturally.
Step 3
Give your child 300 milligram echinacea supplements daily for two weeks with doctor approval. According to Dr. Gaszi, echinacea enhances your body's ability to get rid of poisons that cause and irritate eczema. He also states that it is most effective during the beginning stages of inflammation.
Step 4
Apply sulfur to the affected area three times daily. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, sulfur is used to treat the itching, burning, and redness associated with eczema.
Step 5
Apply calendula to the skin as needed for itching and redness. This method is only a treatment for symptoms and not a cure, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
