CPAP tubing connects a CPAP machine to the CPAP mask. Compressed air generated in the CPAP machine travels through the tubing and into the CPAP mask. From the CPAP mask, air enters the nose and then the throat, working as an air stent to prevent collapse in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. According to the website CPAP Station, tubing should be cleaned at least once per week for optimal functioning.

Step 1

Power off your machine and unplug it from the electrical socket.

Step 2

Fill the basin with warm water and mild dish soap. Agitate the solution to produce soapy water.

Step 3

Remove tubing from the CPAP machine and mask by gently grasping the rubber ends and pulling.

Step 4

Submerge tubing in basin and allow to soak for five to 10 minutes.

Step 5

Remove tubing from basin and run clean water through one end of the tubing allowing it to drain from the opposite end. Rinse until all soap is removed from inside the tubing.

Step 6

Pat the surface of the tubing dry with a clean towel.

Step 7

Hang tubing over a shower rod to air dry.

Tips and Warnings

  • To prevent tearing, My Sleep Apnea recommends removing the hose by "grasping it on the rubber ends, rather than on the hose itself." CPAP tubing should be replaced at least once per year, but can be replaced as frequently as once per month.
  • If your tubing has any holes or tears, it should be replaced right away.
