When threatened or attacked, you have every right to use as much force as needed to save your life. Appraise the Situation

If a robber is demanding your purse or wallet, you may choose to comply with this request. Throw the purse or wallet as far away as you can. If your money is the only thing the robber wants, he will run to snatch the money and you can flee the opposite direction. If after you comply and the robber approaches you, the situation has escalated in danger and now you must choose to fight or run.

Strike the Head and Face

Make your fingers and thumbs claw-like, and gouge the attacker's eyes as hard as possible. It does not matter which digit you use, as long as your press in hard and deep as you can. If you are bear-hugged from behind, tense your neck muscles and swing your upper body back and use the back of your head to smash into the attacker's face.

Go for the Throat

Make a fist and punch straight up into the attacker's throat. If you slowly and lightly apply pressure in the hollow at the bottom of your throat, you will find that it does not take much force to feel the discomfort---imagine what a full-strength punch to the throat can do. Punching to the throat can cause the windpipe to close in, making it very difficult for the attacker to breathe. This gives you an opportunity to escape.

Strike the Groin

The groin is a well-known place to strike to cause severe pain. Simply kick straight up to the groin area as hard as you can. If the attacker is already close to you, throw your knee up into the groin. If your arms are trapped because the attacker is bear-hugging you, stamp on the attacker's foot and try to strike the groin with an open palm. Keep your fingers loose and, if possible, quickly recoil the strike for a whiplash-like effect.

Use Common Objects as Weapons

Almost any object can be used as a dangerous weapon when directed at vulnerable targets. Have your keys in your hand before you approach your car or home. Use them the gouge an attacker's eyes. Scan the environment and look for an object you can strike with, such as a broken bottle or a rock. If you are carrying a hot drink, throw it directly into the attacker's face and run.
