Workout videos offer an alternative to exercising in a crowded gym or outside during nasty weather. You can get a video for just about any type of workout, including strength training, cardio blasting, dance grooving and core training. Although identifying "the best core workout videos" requires a subjective judgment, some can be safely recommended. Experiment to see which of them are most effective and enjoyable for you.

Powerful Pilates

Pilates is an exercise regimen designed to improve posture, prevent injuries and strengthen core muscles. Core pilates workout videos include "Core Fusion: Pilates Plus," which consists of five 10-minute workouts to beat boredom and challenge muscles. Other core Pilates DVDs include "Pick Your Spot Pilates," produced by Crunch, a chain of gyms; Ana Caban's "Abs Pilates Workout"; and Alisa Wyatt's "Intermediate and Advanced Pilates Mat Workouts."

Yoga Abs

Yoga is known for its mental and physical benefits, including the building of a strong core. DietSpotlight recommends Shiva Rea's "Core Yoga" for those people who are fit, familiar with yoga and seeking to improve core strength. "Yoga for Core Strength -- from "Yoga Journal" -- is a stimulating way to strengthen and tone your abs, according to PRLOG.

Training With a Star

Jillian Michaels of "The Biggest Loser" is known for her hardcore attitude and midsection. Get your own tight abs with her DVD titled "The 30-Day Shred," which consists of a series of circuit-training exercises targeting the arms, legs and core, as well as cardio to get your heart pumping. In addition to focusing on specific abdominal work, exercises such as squats, lunges and push-ups will strengthen your core and burn calories.

Feel the Burn

Workout videos that combine core work with fat-blasting cardiovascular exercise will tone up and trim down your physique. Denise Austin's "Shrink Belly Fat" consists of three 15-minute core routines that include exercises such as moving planks and heart-pumping dance-type moves to burn off excess fat. "Cardio Kickboxing," by Jeanette Jenkins, is another cardio-core DVD that focuses on engaging the core during kicking, punching, jabs and uppercuts.
