Exercises to Trim Your Neck

Two main muscles attach your head to your shoulders and support your neck. If these muscles are poorly developed or inflexible and rigid, you may have an asymmetrical and out-of-shape neck. Performing a few choice exercises can help you trim and strengthen your neck, keeping it shapely and slender.

Mouth Exercise

Exercising the mouth tightens your neck muscles and trims your neck. Look up so you are looking at the ceiling but keep your face pointing straight ahead. Close your mouth and purse your lips. Move your jaw in a chewing movement like you are eating a meal.

Chin Exercise

This exercise strengthens the muscles under your chin to help you have a toned neck. Stand in front of a mirror so you can see what you are doing. Stick your chin out as far as you can, elongating your jaw so your chin looks wrinkled and turns white. You should feel your neck muscles pulling. Hold the contraction in your chin for five seconds before relaxing and repeating.

Lip Exercise

The lip exercise tightens your neck muscles for a trim neck. Pull the corners of your mouth down into a pouting face, with your bottom lip sticking up and out. Position your fingers on your collarbone and gently pull the skin down so you get a visible stretch throughout your neck area.

Neck Exercise

Stretching your neck helps keep the muscles taut and flexible. Stand with your back straight and bend your head to the left. Hold this position for 30 seconds, then bend your head to the right and repeat.

Neck Exercise With Tongue

This exercise helps you firm up sagging skin at the front of your neck. Stand or sit up straight, with your spine elongated. Push your tongue to the roof of your mouth and slowly bend your head back so you are looking at the ceiling. Keep your tongue at the roof of your mouth to tighten the muscles situated at the front of your neck and tilt your chin down.

Rotate Head Exercise

This exercise helps muscles in the neck stay firm and flexible. Stand or sit straight and slowly turn your head to the right as far as you can. Pause briefly then return your head to the center. Turn your head to the left and pause briefly before returning to the starting position.

Side Resistance Exercise

Placing resistance against your neck helps build muscle and give you a trim neck. Press your right hand against the right side of your head, using your hand to resist movement as you push the right side of your head against it. Hold for five seconds and relax. Repeat on the other side.
