Long, full eyelashes are considered one of the most beautiful aspects of a woman's face in American culture. Yet from time to time, many women experience a loss of eyelashes, which can be embarrassing. You may have lost eyelashes while undergoing chemotherapy, from an autoimmune disorder or from taking strong prescription medications. Regardless of the reason why you lost your eyelashes, it is possible to grow them back quickly with a little extra care.

Step 1

Treat your eyelashes as gently as possible as you let them grow in length and strength. Avoid mascara on most days of the week to allow your eyelashes to rest and get as much oxygen as possible. If you have to wear mascara, limit it to only a few days a week. When you take off your eye makeup at night, be sure not to tug on the eyelids or rub too firmly around the eyelash area. Even using a cotton pad with eye makeup remover can be harsh. Instead, moisten a Q-tip with some eye makeup remover and gently swipe it along the upper lashes to remove makeup gently.

Step 2

Try using an eyelash growth serum on your eyelashes every day and night. Dermatologist Audrey Kunin says on her website, DermaDoctor.com, that the market offers many different brands and varieties of eyelash growth serums. You do not need a prescription for over-the-counter eyelash growth serums, and you can buy them in drugstores or beauty supply stores nationwide. Dr. Kunin recommends using all-natural formulas that contain vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Step 3

Talk to your dermatologist about the possibility of using a prescription eyelash treatment. A few different brands of prescription eyelash treatments have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of inadequate lash growth. These prescription serums do have risks, so it is important to discuss the risks and benefits with your dermatologist first.

Step 4

Eat plenty of protein-rich foods such as beans, lentils, tofu, soy milk, beef, chicken, eggs and fish. Dairy products such as milk, cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt are also rich in protein. The website TeensHealth says that not getting enough protein in the diet can initiate and worsen hair loss. Be sure to eat a protein-rich food at every meal so that your eyelashes grow in faster.

Things You'll Need
