Racquetball is a fun and competitive game, but it is also a great cardiovascular workout. Nearly anybody can play the game, but knowing some simple strategies can give you a large advantage over your opponent.

The serve

The serve is the first chance to get your opponent off balance, and make them play your game. There are three types of serves designed to do this. The first is the "drive serve," in which you hit the ball with plenty of power in the direction of a back corner. The shot is typically hit low to make it harder for your opponent to return the shot before it hits twice. The second type is a "jam serve," in which you would use one of the side walls to deflect your serve. This is especially useful if you can put spin on your serve, making the direction the ball goes that much more unpredictable. The third type of serve is the "pinch serve." This is very similar to the jam serve, except that you aim for your shot to hit as low on the side wall as possible. This makes for an extremely difficult return shot.

Deep end pin

This strategy is especially useful if you are playing a slower opponent. The idea behind this is to keep your opponent against the back wall, then using a short shot into the front court to end the point. A similar strategy is the side-side pin, in which you keep your opponent running side to side returning balls.

Momentum

The idea behind this strategy is to get your opponents momentum going with one shot, then hit the ball in the opposite direction of their momentum, making it very difficult, if not impossible, to stop their momentum and get into position for a return shot.
