Under-eye wrinkles become more visible as you age. The skin's moisture and elasticity decreases when you get older and fine lines usually develop around the eye first. Rather than spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on creams and surgical procedures, try some home remedies.
Facial Steam
Steaming your face helps to open pores, cleanse impurities and increase blood flow to the skin's surface. You may use a professional facial steamer or your sink. At-home steamers have reservoirs that you simply fill with water and temperature gauges to monitor how much steam is created. If you use a sink, fill it with hot water. Either way, drape a towel over your head and lean your face into the steam for about 10 minutes daily.
Diet
The foods you eat can help to fight wrinkles under the eyes. According to the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, a diet rich in monounsaturated fats, zinc, iron, and vitamin C can prevent those fine lines. Many fruits and vegetables are rich with these vitamins and minerals as well as other powerful antioxidants. Olive oil, avocados, grapefruits, spinach, blueberries, broccoli and fish can fight free radical damage done to the skin. Be sure to drink plenty of water to keep your skin lubricated. Drink at least eight to 10 8 oz glasses every day.
Aromatherapy
Mother Nature suggests aromatherapy as a home remedy for undereye wrinkles. Victoria Edwards, an aromatherapist in Fair Oaks, California, says essential oils such as rose, everlast and rose hip seed can minimize the appearance of wrinkles and prevent new ones.
Avoid
There are a variety of ways to keep wrinkles from forming under the eyes. The Mayo Clinic suggests sun protection as one of the top prevention methods. Staying out of the sun entirely is best, but not always possible. When you are exposed to the sun, always wear protective clothing, hats and sunscreen that block UVA and UVB rays. Another suggestion is to avoid smoke; both smoking and second-hand smoke exposure. The nicotine in cigarettes constricts blood vessels, preventing nutrients from reaching the skin. This causes premature wrinkling around the eyes and the rest of your face.
