Learning to street skate or to ride the dog bowls or vert ramps requires learning a few basic tricks that will increase your skill level and make you look like a pro. Some of the simplest tricks are the fundamentals for the more complicated maneuvers. Practice makes perfect, and easy tricks will take time to perfect.

Ollie

An ollie is making the board and rider jump off the ground while never losing contact with the board. Ollie is by far one of the most important tricks and is the base of many complicated maneuvers. It is best to learn to ollie while stationary, as you progress you will do it while moving. To perform an ollie put your rear foot on the tail, front foot just after the truck bolts toward the center of the board. Slightly bend your knees and transfer your weight to your back foot popping the board so that the rear wheels lift off the ground. As the rear wheels lift off the ground, jump and roll your front foot slightly. The board will then be horizontal in the air with your feet still attached to the deck. As you descend, straighten your front foot, and land with both feet on the deck above both trucks.

Nollie

The nollie is the same as an ollie except from off the nose instead of the tail. To perform a nollie, put your front foot on the nose of the board and your rear foot below the rear trucks. Slightly bend your knees and transfer your weight to your front foot popping the board so that the front wheels lift off the ground. As the front wheels lift off the ground jump and flatten your rear foot slightly. The board will then be horizontal in the air with your feet still attached to the deck. As you descend, straighten your rear foot and land with both feet on the deck above both trucks.

Front Side No Comply

The front side no comply trick is spinning the board 180 degrees while moving. Start peddling at a medium to low speed. Place your back foot on the tail toward the concave, front foot over the front trucks. Square your shoulders in the direction that you are traveling, pop the tail and push forward with your rear foot and move your front foot to the ground. As the board comes around to 90 degrees, catch and push it with your front foot until it lands at 180 degrees.

Tail or Nose Manual

There are two types of skateboard manuals, nose and tail. The manual is also known as a wheelie. Tail manual is easier than the nose manual. Start peddling the board and when you are moving, put your back foot on the tail, front foot right behind the front truck bolts. Push down on your back foot and let the skateboard rise, use your front foot to maintain the balance over the back wheels. The nose manual involves the same movements, but in reverse. Place your front foot on the nose of the board and your rear foot just above the rear truck bolts push down with your front foot until the tail rises, use your rear foot to help maintain balance.
