With increased awareness regarding sun safety, more and more people are taking an interest in how they can better care for their skin. Having smooth and fair skin indicates that it is healthy and well-cared for. There are many ways in which people can make sure their skin looks good and is in good health, which results in a smoother, more fair-looking appearance.
Sunscreen
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends wearing sunscreen containing an SPF of 30 or higher everyday, even on cloudy days. UVB rays cause sunburns, which not only can eventually lead to skin cancer, but also reduce the healthy, fair look of a person's skin. UVA rays can penetrate windows and are the ones that cause evidence of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and age spots, says the AAD. Sunscreen can counteract these effects and help keep skin smooth and fair.
Care
There are many ways in which a person can care for their skin to keep it smooth, fair and healthy. "Glamour" magazine's online beauty channel recommends washing and exfoliating skin regularly to keep it clean and get rid of dead skin cells. Both of these practices keep skin young and fresh-looking. Additionally, moisturizing skin helps keep it hydrated and smooth. "Glamour" also recommends removing make-up before bed, because sleeping with it on can lead to acne and dull-looking skin. The use of creams designed for nighttime wear helps skin repair and rejuvenate as a person sleeps. Finally, using products aimed at a person's skin type, such as oil-free or heavy moisture, helps keep skin smooth and fair.
Nutrition
Eating a healthy and balanced diet is very important for the health and appearance of a person's skin, according to Women Fitness. Be sure to follow the Food Guide Pyramid by including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, low-fat dairy and whole grains in your diet to help skin stay healthy and young-looking, which translates into a fair and smooth look. Avoiding alcohol and caffeine is also important, because a high intake of either can lead to dull, unhealthy looking skin. Drinking plenty of water daily helps keep skin hydrated, making it look and feel its best, says Women Fitness.
