Home Remedies for Hair Loss Treatment

According to the Mayo Clinic, hair loss is most commonly caused by hormonal changes, irritation or follicle damage, poor nutrition, medication, scalp infection and harsh hair treatments. Home remedies that can help slow the hair loss process. While proponents of these treatments claim that they work, these treatments are not backed by the FDA, so consult your doctor before beginning any new regimen.

Lemon Juice, Rose Water, Jojoba Oil and Fennel Seeds

According to Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care," a mixture of lemon juice, rose water, jojoba oil and fennel seeds can be applied to the scalp and roots of the hair to slow hair loss. To use this mixture, combine 2 tbsp. lemon juice, 2 tbsp. rose water, 1 tbsp. jojoba oil and 1 tsp. fennel seeds in a blender or food processor and process on high speed for 15 to 20 seconds to form a thin paste. Gently massage a small amount of the mixture into the scalp and roots of the hair and leave the mixture on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing with cool water and shampooing with your normal shampoo. Repeat this treatment daily as needed. Unused portions of the mixture can be kept in the refrigerator for 48 hours.

Sage Essential Oil, Avocado Oil, Almond Oil and Cinnamon Powder

According to Ann Worwood, author of ""The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy," a mixture of sage essential oil, avocado oil, almond oil and cinnamon powder can help prevent hair loss. To use this mixture, combine 1/4 tsp. sage essential oil, 2 tsp. avocado oil, 2 tsp. almond oil and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon powder in a small bowl and mix to combine. Gently massage the mixture into the roots of the hair and onto the scalp and leave it on for 30 minutes with a towel wrapped around your shoulders to prevent the mixture from dripping on your clothes. Rinse your hair with lukewarm water and shampoo with your regular conditioner before applying a moisturizing conditioner. This treatment can be used daily as long as it does not irritate your scalp or skin. Unused portions of the mixture can be kept in the refrigerator for up to two days.

Coconut Milk and Coriander Seeds

According to Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies," a mixture of coconut milk and coriander seeds is a common home remedy for hair loss. To use coconut milk and coriander seeds, combine 1 tbsp. ground coriander seeds with 1/4 cup coconut milk. Pour the mixture over the scalp and hair in the shower and massage for five to seven minutes. Rinse your scalp and hair with cool water and wash with a gentle shampoo and let your hair dry naturally without blow drying. Repeat this process twice per day as long as it does not irritate your skin or scalp. Unused portions of this mixture can be kept for three to four days in the refrigerator.
