If the belt on your ProForm treadmill breaks after the warranty has expired, you can save a good deal of money by replacing the belt yourself. You can buy a replacement belt directly from ProForm, or other major retailers of exercise equipment. Installing a new belt requires you to disassemble and later reassemble parts of your treadmill's walking deck.
Step 1
Shut the power to your treadmill and unplug it from the outlet.
Step 2
Loosen the old belt by turning the tension-adjustment screws on the rear portion of the walking deck several turns counterclockwise. Depending on the model and age of your treadmill, you will either need a Phillips screwdriver or a hex wrench to loosen the screws.
Step 3
Take off the plastic housing from the walking deck by removing the screws that fasten the housing to the deck, and lift the housing off the deck.
Step 4
Detach the rollers by removing the bolts that attach them to the deck, and lift them away from the deck.
Step 5
Lift the deck from the front and slide the old belt off the deck.
Step 6
Attach the new belt by sliding it over the deck from one side until you center it. Lower the deck onto to the base of the treadmill. Reattach the rollers and the plastic housing.
Step 7
Lubricate the belt. Use the type of lubricant that your owner's manual recommends, and apply by following the directions on the bottle.
Step 8
Center the belt and tighten it by adjusting the centering screws and then the tension screws. The location of these screws varies slightly by model, so refer to your user's manual for their exact location.
Step 9
Plug your treadmill into a power outlet, and turn it on. Inspect the belt to make sure that it is centered and does not slip, readjusting if necessary.
Step 10
Stop the treadmill, get on the belt and test the treadmill at a low rate of speed for several minutes. Readjust the tension or centering, if necessary.
