Your ears naturally produce wax to keep themselves clean and lubricated. In some cases, you may experience excess earwax, which can lead to itching, a feeling of fluid in the ear or a blockage in the ear. If you are experiencing these symptoms, there are at-home remedies you can use to remove excess earwax.
Step 1
Place a few drops of mineral or olive oil in each ear. The oil will help dissolve some earwax and will also lubricate your ear canal, making it easier for the wax to drain out. Wait several minutes to let the oil work.
Step 2
Place several drops of hydrogen peroxide into one ear. Hold your head to the side so that the peroxide remains in your ear without draining out. You will hear a crackling sound as the peroxide bubbles and breaks up the earwax.
Step 3
Fill a bulb syringe with lukewarm water, and use it to gently flush out your ear. Allow the water to run out of your ear.
Step 4
Put 3 drops of rubbing alcohol into your ear and allow it to drain. The alcohol will dry your ear canal safely as it evaporates.
Step 5
Repeat Step 2 through Step 4 in your other ear. Use a soft cloth or a cotton ball to clean your outer ear to remove any residual oil or peroxide.
Step 6
See your doctor if your earwax problem persists. He may be able to flush the earwax in his office or may use a special instrument to scoop it out. In some cases, he may refer you to an ear, nose and throat specialist.
