Landice is a company that manufactures both commercial and residential treadmills. While these units may have different styles and displays, the internal workings of most treadmills are similar. A treadmill has a mechanism installed called a potentiometer that regulates the electricity that runs the drive belt. The higher the current, the faster the belt turns. Calibrating the system means setting the potentiometer so that the actual rate matches the speed you request. For example, if you set the pace on your Landice treadmill to 15 mph, but the machine continues to operate at 20 mph, it needs recalibration to correct the mismatch.
Step 1
Locate the potentiometer. The potentiometer is the device installed in the motor housing that controls the power settings or voltage. The location will depend on the model. Find the motor control board on your unit. Most potentiometers have labels. If not, you will see a post sticking out of the board. This is the potentiometer.
Step 2
Step off the machine and press the "Fast" and "Start" buttons simultaneously. This puts the machine into the Open Loop Speed, or OLS, mode.
Step 3
Set the maximum speed on the display to 12 mph. Adjust the setting by pressing the up or down arrows under the LED speed display. The display shows the actual speed of the machine. Let the actual speed stabilize so the speed display stops moving up and down.
Step 4
Grasp the post on the potentiometer and turn it until the actual speed matches the set speed of 12 mph. Turn the post counterclockwise to increase the speed and clockwise to decrease it.
Step 5
Repeat the process setting the minimum speed at 1.0 mph and adjusting the potentiometer to match.
Tips and Warnings
- Machines without speed sensors calibrate in the same way, but require hookup of an external tachometer to read the speed. Setup of the tachometer will depend on style and model.
- Do not stand on the treadmill when calibrating the speed. The calibration technique may vary per model. This process works for the 8700 unit.
