When it comes to losing weight fast, it is tempting to take an unhealthy approach that involves crash dieting, supplementation and fasting. Even if these methods are effective, you still subject yourself to possible side effects. If you want to do things the healthy way, then you have to take a natural approach. This involves proper food choices and movement.

Chew Slowly

When you eat fast, you have a tendency to eat too much food. Take a bite, place your fork down and chew thoroughly before swallowing. Then reach for your fork and take another bite.

Eat Breakfast

When it comes to breakfast, the school of thought with many people is that skipping it will keep calories under control. In actuality, if you skip this meal, you are setting yourself up for problems with your weight loss. According to MayoClinic.com, prolonged fasting which occurs when you skip breakfast can increase your body's insulin response, which in turn increases fat storage and weight gain. To prevent this from happening, eat something as soon as you get up. A bowl of high-fiber cereal with low-fat milk is one good choice.

Choose Water

Dessert coffees, soda pop, sweetened teas, fruit punch, slushies and alcohol all have one thing in common--they are high in calories. Although they might taste good, continual consumption of these beverages will prevent you from losing weight fast. Give up all of these and drink water as your main beverage. Drink it before your meals, drink it with your meals and drink it all hours of the day. Not only will it give you a full feeling, but it will also hydrate your body.

Eat More Meals

Although it may seem counter-intuitive, eating more meals will keep your appetite under control and give you elevated energy levels. After you have breakfast, eat every two to three hours for the rest of the day. Create balance with your meals by combining complex carbs and protein. A handful of raw vegetables with cheese cubes and an apple is a meal example.

Exercise Your Body Whenever You Can

Any time you move your body, you burn extra calories. Instead of using your remote control to change the channel, get up from your chair, walk to the T.V. and manually change it. Also while watching T.V., exercise during commercial breaks. Perform body weight calisthenics like jumping jacks, push-ups, sit-ups and crunches. When you are preparing food for dinner, walk in place. While standing in line at the supermarket, lift your heels up and down and alternate balancing on one foot. Continue to move your body as much as possible throughout the day to promote caloric expenditure.

Be Mindful At Restaurants

When you eat out, pass up the high-calorie foods that are deep fried, pan fried or prepared in butter. Always go with baked, broiled and steamed entrees and sides. Also keep the butter, cream sauces and cheese off your meals or on the side. At the most, dip your fork in them and get just enough to flavor your food. When you eat baked potatoes, use salsa or ketchup in place of sour cream. These condiments are a lot lower in calories. If you order a sandwich at a diner that comes with mayonnaise, request mustard instead. According to Women's Health, this will save you 80 calories.
