Men and women are completely different when it comes to facial hair. In most cases, the hair on a man's face is thick and dark. This is known as terminal hair. On women, the hair is usually thin and light, and it is called vellus hair. In some cases, patches of terminal hair can still sprout on a woman's face and cause self-consciousness. Regardless of the length or density of your hair, there are options available to get rid of it.
Wax
You can use hot or cold wax in conjunction with an applicator tool and a durable piece of cloth to remove hair. To use wax, apply it to the hair in the direction that it grows, and let it set up until it becomes tacky. After flattening the cloth strip over the wax, forcefully rip it off against the direction of growth. To reduce the pain left behind from this forceful procedure, immediately use your fingers to apply pressure to your skin where the hair was removed. Continue to reapply, and remove all the hair that you want gone. Home waxing kits will have all the tools you need.
Shaving
Shaving requires a razor blade, shaving cream and a sink. After washing your face with warm water, leave it wet, and lather on shaving cream. Gently run the razor blade over your skin to remove the hair. After taking two or three strokes, wash the blade off in the sink to free any debris. Being that you remove skin cells as well as hair, apply a moisturizing cream when you are done to keep your skin soft. To get a closer shave, use flexible triple blades. If your hair is thick and long, trim it down with a pair of scissors or electric shears before shaving.
Depilatory
Depilatory creams have active ingredients that dissolve the keratin in hair, which is a protein that gives hair strength. Before using this product on your face, run a small test on your arm to make sure you do not have an allergic reaction. To use a depilatory, place a warm towel or washcloth on your face to soften the hair, and then apply a liberal amount of cream. Different brands have different set-up times, so check with the instructions to know for sure. The average range is five to 10 minutes. After the cream has set up, take your washcloth, and wipe off the hair. Be mindful that depilatories are strong. Do not allow the cream to get in your mouth, eyes or any open skin.
Tweezing
Tweezing, or plucking, is a home hair removal remedy that requires a pair of tweezers. You use this method for small patches of hair, such as areas like the eyebrows, nose and chin. To use tweezers, grasp an individual hair as close to the skin as possible. Slowly pull the hair out in a steady motion, then repeat with all the hairs you want removed. Be sure you don't yank on the hairs, as this can cause them to break off.
