Hair that is dry and limp may be damaged due to coloring, perming, heat styling or using hair products that contain alcohol. Hair that is particularly damaged may break off and fray at the ends, creating a tangled mess. To help fix damaged hair, get regular hair trims and use deep conditioning treatments to help restore moisture, body and shine in your hair.
Coconut Hair Treatment
Kori Ellis of the She Knows website recommends mixing up a coconut hair treatment to revitalize your damaged, limp tresses. Ellis suggests mixing 2 eggs, 2 tbsp. honey, 2 tbsp. coconut milk, 1 tbsp. vanilla extract and 2 tbsp. olive oil in a bowl. Rinse hair in lukewarm water so it is completely damp, and then apply the mixture to the hair. Work the ingredients through your hair with your fingers, and then apply a shower cap to keep your hair from dripping. Leave the conditioner in for 30 minutes, and then rinse it out with lukewarm water and shampoo and condition as you normally would.
Mayonnaise Conditioner
Instead of using traditional conditioner, Steven Docherty, senior art director at New York City's Vidal Sassoon Salon recommends using mayonnaise as a deep conditioning treatment. Place a few spoonfuls of commercially made mayonnaise in a bowl, and apply it to the hair with your fingers. Leave the mayonnaise in your hair for up to an hour, rinse it out with cool water and shampoo and condition it as usual, recommends Docherty.
Avocado Hair Treatment
In an article in "Cosmopolitan Magazine," cosmetics product creator Helen Ambrosen recommends creating a deep-conditioning treatment with avocados, because they contain vitamins and minerals that help moisturize and condition the hair. Mash up one avocado, one egg, one banana and 2 tbsp. olive oil in a large bowl, and liberally apply the treatment to dry hair. Leave the conditioner in for 10 minutes, then rinse it out in the shower and shampoo and condition like you normally would.
