Home Remedies for a Double Chin

A double chin happens when an extra layer of skin and fatty tissue develops underneath your jaw line. It can be uncomfortable and embarrassing for some. There are a few different reasons why you could get a double chin and a few home remedies that will help you take it away.

Lose Weight

Perhaps the most logical remedy for a double chin would be overall weight loss. It is likely that you have a double chin because you are overweight to some degree, so dropping some pounds should help. Eliminate or greatly reduce processed foods from your diet, and try to concentrate on more whole foods like lean meats, fish, fruits and vegetables. Also, take a brisk walk each day to get your blood pumping.

Facial Exercises

One thing that contributes to a double chin is weak, saggy face muscles. There are many muscles in your face and neck, and if you never exercise them, they will droop just like muscles anywhere else on your body. If you strengthen the muscles around your neck and jaw line, your double chin will begin to disappear. Try tilting your head back so you are looking at the ceiling. Then purse your lips tightly and move them from side to side like you are trying to kiss yourself on the cheek. Then, with your head still back, make an exaggerated chewing motion with your mouth.

Posture

By modifying your posture, you can tighten up weak muscles in the neck, face and spine and take away some of the double chin effect. Something as simple as sitting up straight and keeping your head up will lessen the appearance of the double chin.

Chew Gum

Keeping the muscles of the face toned is important to reduce a double chin, and chewing gum will give them a workout that can last for hours at a time. Choose a sugar-free variety, so you won't have to make any emergency trips to the dentist.
