There are many health advantages that come with the consumption of oil and vinegar. People started using vinegar more than 10,000 years ago. Vinegar is a rich source of valuable minerals that contribute to good health. Certain oils contain beneficial polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, and the fatty acids in polyunsaturated fats are essential to a healthy body. For these reasons, it makes sense to put the two together to make oil and vinegar dressing and reap the benefits.

Vinegar for Essential Minerals

Vinegar contains calcium and phosphorus. These two minerals work hand-in-hand in building up teeth and bones. Magnesium is also found in vinegar and works with calcium to promote heart health and a strong skeletal system. Calcium helps to lower blood pressure, and it keeps the nerves in good shape. According to Linda Page, author of "Healthy Healing," calcium helps to prevent cancer of the colon, osteoporosis, worry and depression.

Other beneficial minerals in vinegar are sulfur and potassium. Sulfur is a mineral that promotes beautiful skin and hair. Potassium found in vinegar alleviates stress, anxiety and depression. It enables the mind to focus clearly as well. Healthy vinegars to include in your diet include apple cider vinegar, rice vinegar and antioxidant-rich red wine vinegar.

Omega-3 Oils for a Sharp Mind

Omega-3 oils are polyunsaturated fats containing essential fatty acids that enhance the health of the brain. Canola and olive oil are good sources of omega-3. Omega-3 oils also increase the level of "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the body, and they lower triglycerides. These oils also lessen joint pain.

Vitamin E for Immune Defense

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, most of the vitamin E consumed in America comes from oils. The health advantages of vitamin E in oil include stronger immunity, protection from cardiovascular disease and blood clots, protection from premature cell aging, protection from deterioration of the mind and protection against free-radical damage that can lead to cancer. Vitamin E also improves the appearance of the skin, and it keeps dandruff and hair loss in check.
