Earaches can be caused by a variety of factors, from swimming to colds to internal swelling caused by a toothache. Children may be especially prone to earaches, but a few basic homeopathic remedies may provide relief quickly and offer reduced swelling, pain and restoration of function. However, resist the temptation to self-diagnose. If an earache doesn't resolve itself in a day or two, or if your child is crying in pain, seek professional medical advice immediately.

Chamomilla

Chamomilla, a common homeopathic remedy, comes from the chamomile flowering plant and is used for generalized pain relief. Chamomilla is often used to reduce pain and swelling caused by moderate to severe earaches, according to Herbs2000.com. The herb reduces the body's sensitivity to nerve impulses and excitability, according to the International Academy of Classical Homeopathy.

Aconitum Napellus

Aconitum napellus is often prescribed for sudden, throbbing earaches, according to Truestar Health. The pain of such earaches is sharp and strong, and may or may not be accompanied by fever or agitation. Children experiencing such earache pain may cry, or become restless and irritable. Also known as Monkshood and Blue Rocket, the root contains alkaloids, according to Botanical.com, that when applied to skin may help reduce pain caused by ear infections, sensitive nerves and inflammation in the ear.

Ferrum Phosphoricum

Ferrum phosphoricum, also known as iron phosphate, is used to help reduce pain, inflammation and discharge from an ear infection, according to Truestar Health.

Mercurius Solubilis

Mercurius solubilis may relieve ear infections symptoms like severe, sharp pain and roaring sounds in the ear. These symptoms may also be accompanied by pus, or thick, sticky fluid oozing from the ear and other symptoms of illness, such as swollen lymph nodes, according to Truestar Health. The mercury solution was used by the ancient Chinese and Egyptians for relief of infections, according to Care2.com. However, mercury poisoning is possible if large doses are ingested. Always use any homeopathic concoction containing mercury with care and under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
