A street fight is a dangerous and potentially deadly activity. Rules don't govern street fighting and weapons are sometimes used during violent confrontations. Virtually any part of the body can be used to inflict damage on an adversary. Nonetheless, the proper use of hands is invaluable in physical combat.
Closed Fisted Punch
Mixed martial artist Sammy Franco wrote Street Fighting Techniques online. Franco says straight, cross, hook and uppercut punches are imperative street fighting tools. Franco urges you to aim for an opponent’s temples, nose, chin, throat, solar plexus, ribs and groin. Franco states it is important to land a blow initially with your center knuckle to avoid causing hand injuries. Furthermore, Franco recommends you avoid striking the forehead or skull because a blow landed to those areas can result in a fractured hand. The website Self-Defense Tutorial says hands are susceptible to injuries because they consist of nearly 30 small and brittle bones. Conversely, bones located on the cranium are extremely solid and hard. Therefore, a closed fisted punch to the head is hazardous to hands.
Open Hand Strike
Open hand strikes are finger jabs, and blows landed with the palm of your heels. Franco reports these strikes are popular and useful because they are unlikely to damage hands. Open hand strikes are generally used initially before standard punches are employed in combinations.
Fingers and Nails
Franco stresses how damaging the fingers and nails can be in a fight. Fingers and nails can be used to gouge eyes, pull hair, claw the face, and even crush the testicles and throat. You can also use your hands like a vice by squeezing all of your fingers with tremendous pressure on the temples of an opponent.
Heel of Hand
The website Self Defender lauds the violent effect that the heel of your hand can make on an opponent. The heel of the hand is effective because it is an easy technique to learn and it can be landed from a close distance. Additionally, a strike with the heel of the hand comes quickly and it can ambush your opponent.
