Health professionals like mini trampolines because it is a low-impact, easy to use form of exercise that's accessible to just about everyone. Mini trampolines can be set up for use inside or outside and are lightweight. A low price starting point makes this piece of exercise equipment one of the most affordable, although you can choose more expensive options. Weight limits vary among brands of mini trampolines and stabilizing bars are available on some units.

Quality

The quality of the springs and frame varies from brand to brand. The springs need to be well-balanced without being overly tight or soft. The frame should be constructed of steel, strong enough to support all weight sizes. Inspect those elements closely because they will also affect the bounce you'll get and possibly how your body reacts during and after use. The surface material should be sturdy. The springs should not be exposed. Units with larger coils will last longer and provide a more comfortable bounce. Six-legged models are more stable than less-expensive and lower-quality four-legged units.

Size

Mini trampolines range from 36 to 44 inches, measured across the unit. A 40 inch model is more stable and safer for you to bounce and be able to turn around. Small mini trampolines have a size limit that might restrict you from bouncing if your weight is over that limit. Also, if the surface is too small, you risk falling off of it. Consider the size of the unit when you think about where to set it up in your home.

Price

Prices, as of June 2010, range from $30 to $250 for mini trampolines. The most expensive models might last a lifetime with their sturdy frames. An $80 mini trampoline is close to a midprice range. It might be well-constructed but have a smaller bouncing area. A $30 option will be lighter in weight, have a small jumping area and might not be sturdy enough if you are overweight. The higher-priced models have the best construction, usually fold easy for storage, and often come with a stabilizing bar. They also have the largest bounce space and are rated higher in safety.

Where to Buy

Low to midprice trampolines can be found in general merchandise stores that have a sporting goods department. Sports equipment stores will sell midprice mini trampolines and sometimes a lower-priced model. The best quality and higher-priced mini trampolines are sold in specialty stores or directly from the manufacturer. You can purchase online. Most stores and manufacturers have websites or vendors set up to sell their models.

Brands

Two of the higher priced mini trampolines are made by Rebound Air and Needak. Companies that make midprice trampolines include Nordic, Stamina, Jamz and Skywalker. Some of those companies also make lower-priced mini trampolines. As of June 2010, many units are available in the $30 to $60 range.
