Eating fast food on the run can lead to constipation. Rather than using pharmaceutical laxatives that can be unpredictable—and cause you to run to the nearest bathroom while at work---consider using other methods. Laxatives can be habit-forming.
Generally, having at least one daily bowel movement is considered ideal. Some people say they may have only two or three per week. Consider how much food you eat every day and it will quickly become evident why a natural, daily detox is a good idea.
Here are a few ideas of how to get quick relief from irregularity. Check with your doctor if you have chronic constipation to determine if it is a more serious health issue.

Drink Hot Lemon Water

Consider drinking a cup of hot water with lemon juice squeezed into it every morning. Hot liquid of any kind often will prompt peristalsis of the colon, as many coffee and tea drinkers will tell you. Lemon has no caffeine and most people have no food allergy to it. This is a non-laxative way to relieve constipation. If you do this daily at the same time, your body will become accustomed to emptying the bowel and this will help to re-establish a daily detox. Also, spend time squatting, as this will help to tone the colon. In countries where people spend hours squatting to do work, eat, or talk with others, they do not have irregularity.

Coffee Enemas Work

Get medical clearance from your physician to try a coffee enema at home. You can purchase a reusable enema kit at medical supply and drugstores. Two generations ago, using enemas was more common. Today, enemas are done before certain hospital procedures.
For a quick detox, a coffee enema done at home is inexpensive and is not habit-forming. Instead of water, use coffee as the liquid. You will want to stay close to a bathroom for the hour after you complete the enema.
Coffee has palmitates that prompt the liver to produce bile and facilitates colon cleansing. Coffee enemas are done at spas and colon hydrotherapy clinics for clients interested in a thorough detox.

Epsom Salts, Detox Teas

Check with your doctor to see if an Epsom salt laxative is appropriate for you. The basic formula is available on every package of Epsom salts, which can be purchased in drugstores. This can be done before bedtime so that you have relief by the next morning. Every individual will respond differently to each remedy.

Several commercial detox teas contain senna, cascara sagrada, buckthorn and other herbs to provide colon cleansing. Not everyone finds senna or cascara sagrada appropriate: they cleanse the colon rapidly in some cases. Consult your physician for advice.
