Practitioners of Ambalam yoga believe it is a path toward a Grace Light body, according to the website Ambalam Yoga. The spiritual discipline helps you live consciously at the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. The yoga practice provides tools and guidance to be one with the divine, or as practitioners call it, the "Grace Light or God."

History

Vallalar created the foundation for Ambalam yoga. Vallalar, who is from the southern part of India, was spiritually transformed in 1874, according to the website Ambalam Yoga. He developed the four principles followed in Ambalam yoga: the art of discipline, the art of devotion, the art of wisdom and knowledge and the art of service. His message is a combination of Buddhism and Christianity.

Discipline

The art of discipline is a more physical aspect of Ambalam yoga. Practitioners use yoga poses, or asanas, that teach them to be still and help them incorporate breathing, visualization and chanting techniques. This helps them to achieve an inner calm. A vegetarian diet is also useful in learning the art of discipline. When practiced in combination with yoga poses, a vegetarian diet helps heal the body.

Devotion

Just as yoga poses helps to calm the body, prayer can help calm the mind. Prayer opens the path of communication between God and practitioners of Ambalam yoga. They use prayer to purify the heart. One way that they do that is by performing a sacred dance, which is symbolically meant to lift the veils between them and God. It helps practitioners achieve spiritual enlightenment, or an inner awakening.

Wisdom and Knowledge

Through your physical and mental meditation practitioners can get in touch with their own divinity. Their continued practice of prayer allows them to connect with their spirit and hear God's messages. These messages help them to purify their intellect and develop their inner knowledge. They use chants, mantras and lights to help them commune with the divine.

Service

Service is an important part of achieving the path of the Grace Light. People who practice Ambalam yoga believe that everyone deserves healthy food, clothes and a place to live. They also believe that everyone needs to be educated in how to live a holistic lifestyle. One of their goals is to help people achieve these things. To that end, they believe in sharing with those in need and dedicating themselves to the service of others, thereby fostering feelings of compassion.
