Having great looking skin is more than a cosmetic issue, it is also a sign of the quality of your overall health. When you are healthy, your skin will show it. By taking care of your skin from the outside and putting the right things into it from the inside as far as your diet is concerned, you will be rewarded with vibrant, healthy-looking skin that others will envy.

Stay Out of the Sun

The Mayo Clinic recommends sun protection as one of the most important ways to get great skin. Not only can prolonged exposure to the sun cause wrinkles, but it can also lead to moles, sun spots and even skin cancer. If you must go into the sun during the day, wear protective clothing and apply sunscreen with a sun protection factor of 15 or higher.

Drink Green Tea

Reader'sDigest.com suggests green tea as a beverage to help you get healthier skin. This can be attributed to the large amount of polyphenols, or skin-friendly antioxidants, in green tea. The website recommends aiming for four cups of this stuff per day.

Refrain From Smoking

Smoking is bad for the human body on so many levels, and the skin is just one way that this poor health habit makes itself known. Not only is it bad for the lungs and heart, but it can cause wrinkles, dullness and age spots and make the skin look generally unhealthy. If you want radiant, healthy skin, smoking is a definite no-no.

Wash and Exfoliate

With all of the tips out there for getting healthy, great-looking skin, it is important to remember that a basic, common-sense skin care regimen is also important. Wash your face twice a day and exfoliate gently to remove dead skin cells and unclog the pores. A gentle moisturizing mask can also go a long way with smoothing and refining the skin over time.
