Honey has been used for years for a variety of home remedies. It has also been used on the skin for moisturizing, toning and cleansing. Not only does it have beneficial skin care properties but it also has been used for minor skin wounds. Although honey is used for home remedies, it should not be used for issues that should be treated by a licensed medical provider.

Moisturizer

Honey has many moisturizing properties. According to Pioneer Thinking, honey is a humectant and attracts and retains water in the skin. Honey has been used in creams, lotions and hair products because of its moisturizing properties. Honey can be used specifically on the face or for the entire body. Honey can spread on the face after cleansing. It can also be poured into bath water for an overall body moisturizer.

Skin Damage

Honey can be used to treat damage to the skin caused by burns, cuts or wounds. The honey has antiseptic and anti-irritant properties that help in healing cuts and burns. It has also been used to treat acne and pressure sores on the skin, according to Skin Care Resource Center. Honey also acts as a cleanser and will clean any wounds or cuts found on the skin. This is beneficial to avoid any infections that can occur because of the wound or cut.

Sun Protectant

Honey is a natural anti-oxidant. It has been used to help protect the skin from damaged caused by exposure to UV rays from the sun. According to Pioneer Thinking, honey is used in sunscreen and skin protectant products for its moisturizing properties and because it helps in skin rejuvenation. Also since some skin protectant products can irritate the skin, the honey counteracts this to protect the skin.
