It is important to choose a weight loss program that is appropriate for your goals. The more challenging your goals are, the harder you will have to work. This means you will have to choose an intense workout weight loss program if you have lofty goals.

Time Frame

Intense workout weight loss programs are meant to achieve significant weight loss and often involve doing so in a short amount of time. According to Weight Watchers, the most a person should lose in a week is two pounds. Losing more than that may require unhealthy behaviors, and the weight usually is regained soon afterward.

Procedure

To lose two pounds in a week, you need to burn 7,000 calories more than you consume. This comes out to a thousand calories a day. This requires doing a lot of cardio exercising, so find an exercise you enjoy such as running, biking, group fitness classes or swimming.

Calories

A 155-lb person will burn 704 calories per hour running at a pace of 6 mph, 563 calories bicycling, 493 calories doing a high-impact aerobic class and 704 calories swimming laps.

Although cardio exercise burns more calories, it is also important to do strength training as well. A pound of muscle burns an extra 30 to 50 calories per day, according to Wayne Westcott, fitness research director for the South Shore YMCA in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Benefits

Weight loss workout plans shed pounds and tone muscle. According to the Mayo Clinic, exercise prevents chronic diseases such as heart disease, high-blood pressure, osteoporosis and type 2 diabetes. It also improves your mood by releasing chemicals to your brain and boosts your self-esteem because you will look better. Finally, it helps you sleep better and can be fun.

Morning Workouts

According to Fitness Magazine, you will be more successful if you work out in the morning. A study done at Mollen Clinic found that 75 percent of people who exercised in the morning did so regularly, but only 50 percent of those who exercised later in the day did so regularly. So for your program to have a better chance of success, schedule workouts for the morning, before your other commitments get in the way. Also, according to a study done at the University of Tokyo, doing your strength training before your cardio will burn more fat.
