The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics attests that 80 percent of ingredients in personal care products contain hazardous impurities that irritate and clog the pores. Synthetic additives and preservatives are present in over-the-counter beauty items that claim to rejuvenate the skin and promote healthy skin. Opting for natural home remedies to cleanse facial pores may circumvent skin aggravation caused by chemicals.

Natural Everyday Cleanser

A daily facial cleanser is fundamental in maintaining healthy skin and pores. The Skincare Resource Center says that daily cleansing helps to dissolve impurities and small dirt particles that accumulate on the skin’s surface that can lead to unsightly lesions and blemishes. Your natural facial cleanser should generally contain a mild exfoliant that helps to lift and eliminate dead skin cells that can clog pores.

For a gentle yet effective daily facial cleanser, combine 1/2 cup of oatmeal with 2 tbsp. of heavy cream. Use a blender or coffee grinder to finely grind the oatmeal until it is of uniform consistency. Apply liberally to the face and neck in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water.

Calming Facial Toner

Natural facial toners help to close the pores, remove traces of your facial cleanser or soap and aid in removing remaining impurities trapped on the skin’s surface. Additionally, skin toners help to replenish lost moisture and restore the natural pH balance offset by your cleanser and water. Many commercial astringents and toners contain excessive alcohol levels that can strip the skin of essential oils and increase the occurrences of breakouts.

For a calming and natural toner, mix 4 oz. of witch hazel with 15 drops of lavender oil. Witch hazel modifies oil production and fights acne while calming the common skin ailments of eczema, razor burn, cracked or blistered skin and sunburns, according to the World Wide Skin Organization. Alternately, lavender oil is a natural antimicrobial that is not only effective but offers a fragrant toning experience.

Deep Pore Mask Treatment

A deep pore mask treatments reaches deep within the pore to eliminate embedded debris to clarify and refine the skin. Using a natural facial mask prevents skin irritation associated with chemically laden store-bought products.

For a thorough, deep pore mask treatment, gather 12 tbsp. of plain oatmeal, 2/3 cup of hot water, 1/2 a cored and unpeeled apple, 3 tbsp. of honey and 2 tbsp. of plain yogurt. Mix the water and oats together and let stand until a paste forms. Using a blender, mix the apple, honey and yogurt until it reaches a smooth consistency. Add the paste and blend. Smooth over your face and let it dry for 15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water followed by cold water to close the pore. This mask helps control oil production without drying the skin.
