The use of fossil fuels for energy creates a reliance on oil and coal, which have finite supplies and often are expensive to obtain. Retrieving and using renewable sources of energy, such as the sun, wind or bioenergy, help to create new options for energy-producing industries, and are abundant and less harmful to the environment.

Renewable Energy

The American Council on Renewal Energy describes renewable energy as energy obtained from sources, such as the sun, wind, water, organic plant matter and geothermal, the heat found inside the Earth. Renewable sources of energy are readily available from around.

Objective

Using renewable sources of energy decreases the impact on the environment. The Renewable Energy Trust says that the extraction of fossil fuel from underground can contaminate water supplies. Toxic chemicals contained in the fluids used to extract fossil fuel contaminate the soil, impacting the environment in that region. Using renewable resources of energy would decrease dependence on foreign nations for oil and increase the job market.

Solar Energy

The sun provides a tremendous amount of energy and is available every day. Converting sunlight into energy can provide businesses and homes the energy needed to heat water and space, generate electricity and save money and resources. Utilizing the energy of the sun, power plants that rely on fossil fuels to create energy are slowly being replaced with concentrated solar power systems.

Bioenergy

The use of bioenergy has been around for centuries, with wood being the main source. Organic and industrial waste, as well as plants, are forms of renewable energy. Bioenergy has the same potential as fossil fuel to emit carbon dioxide. Rnewable Energy World reports that the use of biomass feedstocks, fast-growing plants and trees replenish the energy lost, and increase revenue for the agriculture industry.

Wind

Windmills have been used around the world for many years to generate electricity and pump water. Used together with solar cells and a power grid, wind turbines provide power to electric companies as a source of electricity. Farmers, ranchers and homeowners can use individual windmill units to generate power on their properties and in their homes by creating their own source of renewable energy.
