Excess belly fat is unhealthy and uncomfortable to carry around all the time. Exercises to specifically reduce belly fat do not exist. The concept of "spot reducing" is a myth. It is possible to tone and tighten abdominal muscles through specific exercises, but to remove belly fat, you will need a different approach. Belly fat is simply stored energy, so performing exercises that burn fat from your whole body is the fastest way to get rid of it.
Brisk Walking
Depending on how much belly fat you need to remove, walking may be your best choice as an introductory exercise. The key is to move as intensely as your fitness level allows and to walk consistently. Choose a distance that you feel is adequate, and walk everyday. If it is too easy, increase the distance or incorporate arm movements. If it is too difficult, walk slower or decrease the distance until you are stronger. Participating in a good walking program after you have been inactive for a period of time is an effective way to remove belly fat.
Weight Training
Lean muscle mass burns more calories than fat. Increasing the amount of muscle on your frame will give your metabolism a boost and enable you to burn more calories while you are at rest. Basic compound moves that incorporate more than one muscle group, such as bench presses, squats and pulldowns, will point you in the right direction.
Rowing Machine
If you can find access to a quality rowing machine, either at a gym or your home, you will burn a huge number of calories while working your entire body. Rowing can burn up to 800 calories an hour if done intensely.
Swimming
Swimming is an exercise that works multiple muscle groups, including your heart and lungs. If you are quite a bit overweight, swimming offers the added benefit of being a non-impact exercise. Gentle resistance from the water will work your muscles and increase metabolism for fat-burning.
