Razor bumps that sometimes appear after shaving are actually ingrown hairs that have grown back into the skin. After it is cut with the razor, the hair becomes sharp and curls into your skin. Your body recognizes the hair as an intruder, and the raised bump is a defense mechanism. People with curly hair are more likely to get razor bumps.
Aloe
The gel inside an aloe leaf will soothe your skin and make the razor bump feel better. Break open a leaf and squeeze some gel onto the razor bumps. Leave it on your skin to dry.
Technique
The way you shave has a lot to do with whether you get razor bumps or not. Shave with the grain of the hair rather than against it. You may not get as close a shave, but razor bumps will likely be avoided. Also, do not go over the same spot more than once, and don't stretch out your skin as you shave it. The hair can snap back easier if your skin is pulled tight, which can result in the hair embedding itself in your skin.
Disinfect
Razor bumps run the risk of becoming infected in some cases. To prevent that from happening, put some tee tree oil on the bumps. Tea tree oil is a natural disinfectant. Just soak a cotton swab in tea tree oil and apply to the razor bumps.
Soak
Prevention is just as much a remedy as anything else, and soaking your face prior to shaving can prevent you from getting razor bumps altogether. Use a soft cloth and hot water to soften the hairs and open your pores. Take 10 to 15 minutes if you can spare it. Exercise caution if you are applying heat to your bikini area.
Rest Your Face
Sometimes, it is beneficial to give your face a rest and let the hairs grow out for a few days. This will give them all an opportunity to come back out so you can start from square one with a sound preventative approach.
New Razor
Razor bumps can be caused by a dull razor. Change your razor regularly to ensure it is always sharp. And be wary of multi-blade razors. They can cause the hair to snap back and embed into your face more than a razor with fewer blades. Also, use a conditioning shaving cream to keep the area moist while you shave.
