Sperm is the male reproductive component that is necessary to complete the fertilization process involved with conception. Of the millions of sperm cells that make their way through the female reproductive system, it only takes one cell to fertilize the egg. But there are a number of men who have a low sperm count and they are looking for ways to boost production. This can be done by making some lifestyle changes in conjunction with a clean approach to the diet.
The Steps
Step 1
Break the habits. Various bad habits can contribute to a low sperm count and they should be avoided. Some of these include the use of illicit drugs, excessive alcohol consumption and smoking.
Step 2
Cool it down. Avoid hot climates in the area of the genitals as this can compromise sperm count. Wear loose fitting underwear like boxers, avoid long hours of laptop use and avoid long periods of hot tub exposure.
Step 3
Cut out the bad foods. Foods that are high in saturated fats and are highly processed can cause free radicals in the system. This can negatively impact sperm cell count. Foods to avoid include fast foods, refined carbohydrates, sweetened beverages and commercial baked goods.
Step 4
Take some vitamins. There are several different vitamins and minerals that can help increase sperm count. Some of these include zinc, folic acid, selenium, vitamin A and vitamin E. These can be found in supplement form and also in foods like pumpkin seeds, beans, broccoli, asparagus, carrots and sunflower seeds.
Step 5
Stay away from bikes. Bicycle seats propose a couple of potential problems to sperm production. Sitting on the seat for long periods of time raises the scrotal temperature, which is compounded when tight shorts are worn. Nerves and arteries responsible for sperm production can also become damaged.
