"The Biggest Loser" is a popular weight-loss reality television show that has been on the air since 2004, according to NBC.com. Obese contestants from around the nation compete for the largest percentage of weight loss and a $250,000. Contestants compete in difficult fitness and nutrition challenges, temptations and weigh-ins. The contestants who lose the least percentage of weight loss for the week are voted off the show. Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels are the contestants' trainers. They design innovative, intense workouts that can be re-created at home or at your local gym.

Hiking

Several first episodes of "The Biggest Loser" begin with a one-mile hike up the Biggest Loser Ranch hill. The contestants usually have to carry something up the hill or see how many times they can reach the top. Hiking is an effective form of weight loss and a fun workout, as your mind stays busy taking in the surroundings. A 60-minute hike burns anywhere from 400 to 800 calories, according to HealthStatus.com. Check your local state parks for hiking trails--those with higher elevation changes will give you the best workout.

Cross-training

If you have watched "The Biggest Loser," you are aware that contestants participate in a varied exercise menu. They not only run and walk on cardio machines, they hike, swim, play sports, do yoga and boxing as well. This type of variation in exercise is called cross-training. You don't want to get stuck in an exercise rut, doing the same workouts all the time. You will get bored, and your body will plateau. A mix of exercises stimulates your body and mind, helps prevent injury and keeps you motivated.

Beach Workout

The natural resistance of the sand, water and wind can make a beach workout extra intense. Bob and Jillian push their participants' limits as they compete in beach challenges and workouts. Try running or walking on the beach and discover how much resistance the sand and wind provide. Crawl on your stomach in the sand for an upper-body workout. Build a sand castle with your children. The digging and shoveling will be fun, and you'll burn calories in the process. Play beach volleyball with friends to burn 300 to 600 calories in an hour, according to HealthStatus.com.
