Unwanted hair can be a hassle, whether it's on your face, your body or even in your nose. Removing hair can leave you with painful razor burn, itchy ingrown hairs and other skin irritation if you don't do it the right way. Men who want to remove hair usually need a little more help than just a trusty razor to do the job right.

Facial Hair

When you shave, start by washing your face with a mild cleanser--otherwise any dirt and debris on your face will end up in your pores, where it can cause clogs and breakouts, says Anthony Sosnick, founder of the men’s grooming brand Anthony Logistics, in Details magazine. You can also skip exfoliators on days you shave, since brushing on your shaving cream and shaving are both effective ways to remove dead skin cells, according to Details. When you're choosing a shaving cream, Details recommends bypassing super-foamy creams, like the ones that come in aerosol cans, and choosing gels or creams in bottles and tubes--you want a thin lubricating layer that's easy for your razor to slide through, rather than a fluffy coating of shaving cream.

Body Hair

The best way to remove hair on your body depends on where the unwanted hair is located, according to Men's Fitness magazine. Opt for depilatory cream if you're removing hair in hard-to-shave spots, like your knuckles, ankles or toes, and rinse rather than scrubbing any residue away when you're finished to reduce risk of ingrown hairs. An electric trimmer is a good option for your arms and legs when you want to trim hair rather than remove it entirely. If you're going for hair-free arms or legs, wax is your best bet, and you should take a mild pain reliever, such as aspirin, before your wax to reduce inflammation.

Other Hair

Don't ignore your nose hairs--people really do notice when they are poorly groomed, says makeup artist Damone Roberts in O, The Oprah Magazine. You can tackle the trimming yourself with a nose hair clipper or use tweezers to pluck out individual hairs. Roberts also says you shouldn't neglect your eyebrows and recommends having a professional work on them. Let your eyebrow stylist know you don't want your eyebrows shaped, just cleaned up, and be sure to brush them every day with an eyebrow brush.
