Some natural supplements can help you burn belly fat fast. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has banned the sale of supplements containing ephedra, but many fat-burning supplements are quite safe, according to "Supplements 101," a book by Jim Stoppani. In fact, these fat-burning supplements contain little or no caffeine at all. However, for people who can tolerate stimulants, adding caffeine may further boost fat-burning results. Add one or all of these supplements to your fitness program to burn belly fat faster than with diet and exercise alone.

Green Tea Extract

Green tea helps to burn belly fat because it contains a substance known as epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG, which elevates metabolic rate. In fact, this thermogenic or fat-burning effect cannot be fully explained by green tea's caffeine content. Caffeine also has thermogenic properties, but according to "Homemade Supplement Secrets" by Jeff Anderson, it is the EGCG that prolongs the activity of the neuro-hormone epinephrine which acts to uncouple fatty acids from body fat stores for use as energy. Take green tea standardized for 300 milligrams of EGCG up to three times daily. Adding 200 milligrams of caffeine makes it even more effective, says Anderson.

Fucoxanthin

Fucoxanthin is a carotenoid in the family of beta carotene, the vitamin A precursor from carrots. It comes from brown seaweed and exerts powerful metabolic-enhancing effects without any nervous system stimulant properties. Fucoxantin increases fat-burning inside of cells at the mitochrondrial level, according to Life Extension Magazine's article "Safely Burn Away Body Fat" by Julius Goepp. Fucoxanthin also reduces abdominal fat and decreases blood glucose and insulin levels. Take 100 to 200 milligrams two or three times daily.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid

According to "Five Fat Fighters" by Matthew Kadey, conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA, is an omega-6 fatty acid that promotes fat-burning, increases lean mass and prevents body fat storage. Moreover, increasing intake of these good fats seems to coax the body into burning more fat as energy. Natural sources of CLA include sunflower and safflower oils, as well as grass-fed dairy products, but the best way to get functional doses is supplementation. Take one to two gm up to three times daily with meals.

Forskolin

Forskolin is the active ingredient in an Eastern Ayurvedic herb known as coleus forskohlii and it encourages fat loss in many ways. According to "Natural Anabolics" by Jerry Brainum, forskolin extract has been shown to decrease body fat percentage and increase free testosterone in men who are training. Testosterone acts as a potent fat-burner and muscle-builder in the human body. Take an extract providing 25 to 50 milligrams of forskolin up to three times per day before meals.

7-Keto DHEA

Dehydroepiandrosterone, or DHEA, is an adrenal hormone that directly affects fat-burning in men and women. The only problem is that taking DHEA can increase testosterone or estrogen levels in men and women, causing hormonal imbalance. Seven-keto, also referred to as 7-oxo, is a metabolite of DHEA and may be safer for supplementation because it does not convert to either testosterone or estrogen in the body. What it does do is to boost metabolism by increasing thyroid activity, turning up the body's natural fat-burning thermostat, according to "Supplements 101" by Jim Stoppani.
