Push-ups are effective in developing the chest, shoulder and tricep muscles and are a very popular exercise choice for military personnel and those simply interested in improving their fitness. Products such as the Perfect Push Up and the Push Up Pro claim to make the general push-up an even more effective activity by engaging more muscles and reducing joint strain.
Function
Both the Perfect Push Up and the Push Up Pro function similarly. Each piece of equipment features handles that rotate and allow your arms to rotate naturally as you would as if you throw a punch or perform shoulder press. When you’re in the starting position, your wrists face your feet, but as you lower down towards the floor, your hands rotate and end up facing each other. The rotating handles reduce the strain on the wrist joints and allow your limbs to rotate in a natural fashion, which limits the stress put on the shoulder capsule.
Structure
Both the Perfect Push Up and the Push Up Pro measure eight inches in diameter and weigh approximately two pounds. The Perfect Push Up claims that it can hold up to a 400 pound load, The Perfect Push Up has a steel handle that features a soft grip and textured cushion, while the Push Up Pro has a plastic handle. The Push Up Pro piece seems to be made of a somewhat less durable plastic.
Prices
The Push Up Pro comes in a set of two and retails at $10 before shipping and handling. The original Perfect Push Up retails at $29.95 including shipping. It appears that the difference in costs primarily has to do with the difference in quality, as the Perfect Push Up is made from metal and features smooth bearings, allowing you to rotate the piece smoothly throughout the push-up movement.
Supplements
The Push Up Pro comes with a workout and nutrition guide booklet. The Perfect Push Up features an instructional DVD and poster with a variety of exercises. Both provide a variety of suggested exercises and workouts. Perfect Push Up offers up workouts on its website that can be viewed without purchasing the equipment.
