Psoriasis is a condition where the cells of the skin grow too fast, causing red blotches that can be irritated, itchy and inflamed. It can take place anywhere on the body, including the scalp. There is no simple explanation why psoriasis develops and there is no concrete cure. However, there are ways to treat it. Some of the treatment options involve oral and topical prescription medications that are used to slow down cell growth and eliminate scaling. But there are also some natural approaches that can be taken as well.
Step 1
Take a warm bath. Before you get into the tub, place some Dead Sea salts in it. These are useful to psoriasis because they draw toxins out of the body and they can dry up the affected areas and promote healing.
Step 2
Change your dietary habits. Avoid foods that can cause indigestion and that are high in acidity and salt. Some of these include deep fried foods, refined foods, processed foods and foods that are high in sodium, such as frozen dinners.
Step 3
Reduce your stress. Stress is said to exacerbate psoriasis flare-ups and it should be avoided. Some ways to reduce your stress levels is by partaking in mind-body practices, such as yoga, meditation, tai-chi and support groups.
Step 4
Try some herbal remedies. There are some herbal remedies and supplements that can be used to treat psoriasis. Some of these include milk thistle, nickel, sulfur, oregano oil, evening primrose oil and turmeric.
Step 5
Get some sun exposure. The sun has UVA and UVB rays in it. The ultraviolet B rays are more beneficial to psoriasis. Stay out in the sun for five to 10 minute bouts of time throughout the day.
