What Are Detoxifying Foot Pads Made Of?

Bamboo Vinegar

Bamboo vinegar is a common ingredient found in many different detoxifying foot pads. The vinegar is created by boiling bamboo at high temperatures and condensing the liquid that evaporates. Bamboo vinegar is high in acetic acid, which is acid commonly found in white vinegar. Bamboo vinegar has been produced in Japan for hundreds of years and is often used to treat skin diseases. Eczema and atopic dermatitis are some of the conditions bamboo vinegar is used for in Japan. The manufacturer claims that Bamboo vinegar is added mainly to detoxifying foot pads to draw out toxins and is one of the most essential ingredients. While there is no scientific evidence that supports this claim, this is the position of the foot pads' maker and many Japanese herbalists. One major complaint about detoxifying foot pads is the odor associated with them. Bamboo vinegar is most likely responsible for the "barbecue smell" that is often associated with them.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline is another common ingredient found in detoxifying pads. Tourmaline is a crystalline mineral compounded with other elements such as aluminum, iron, copper and magnesium. It is considered a semi-precious mineral and is often used in herbal medicine. Japanese herbalists say that tourmaline creates negative ions and that these ions are used to attract toxins and heavy metals out of the body. This is why Tourmaline is often added to detoxifying foot pads. Tourmaline has also been said to promote circulation, relieve stress and strengthen the immune system due to the negative ions it produces. However, there is no scientific evidence that supports any of these claims. Tourmaline comes in a variety of different crystal shapes and types because of the many different elements that often bond with this crystalline structure.

Chitin

Chitin is another ingredient commonly found in detoxifying foot pads. Chitin is a long chain polymer of sugars. It is also a derivative of glucose. In medicine, Chitin is sometimes used to make bandages due to its strength and biodegradability. It also has the ability to accelerate the healing process of wounds in humans. Chitin is often used to make up the absorbing pad on the detoxifying foot pads. Chitin is used because of its green aspects and because of its healing properties. Chitin has been scientifically proven to increase healing by scientists from the Department of Plastic Surgery College of Medicine in South Korea. These scientists have also filed several patents for bandages and creams made from Chitin.
