When you want to attract a guy, coming on too strong can turn him off. By using subtle flirting tips, you show your interest without being too forthcoming about your intentions. You may find that the best way to flirt uses little in the way of words, but instead uses your eyes, body and sense of humor to let him know that you're interested.
Eye Contact
The right amount of eye contact shows him that you're interested without even being close to each other. You can catch a guy's eye from across a crowded room in hopes that he notices and comes to talk to you. When you see a guy in whom you're interested, catch his eye and hold his glance for three seconds, before smiling and looking away. Jena Pincott, author of "Do Gentlemen Really Prefer Blondes?" notes that it gives a guy the confidence to come talk to you, sensing he won't be denied.
Laughter
Men typically perceive an appreciation for humor as an attractive trait for a potential mate, according to researchers at the University of Western Ontario and McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, and Westfield State College in Massachusetts. Their study appeared in the March 2006 edition of "Evolution and Human Behavior." While laughing at a guy's jokes is a good way to let him know you appreciate his humor, the study also found that men were less interested in women who produced humor. So leave the jokes to him, and laugh along to flirt without being obvious.
Body Language
You can flirt with your body as effectively as you do with your words. Cosmopolitan recommends touching a part of your body, like your collarbone, hair or leg, to make the guy subconsciously think about touching you there, as well, according to therapist and board certified sexologist Patti Britton, president of the Foundation for Scientific Study of Sexuality, of Grand Rapids, Michigan. When talking to him, angle your body toward his, and mimic his movements. It shows that you're interested in what he's saying, and invites him to become more intimate with you.
Dream Talk
If you want to use your words to flirt in a more subtle way, consider the information that you give him. For instance, instead of telling a guy you were thinking about him, mention that you had a dream about him. He'll be curious and interested, but refuse to give him the details, Glamour says. Or, ask him his opinion on something, such as whether he likes your hair up or down, while demonstrating the two styles. You're bringing attention to yourself, and flirting without coming on too strong.
