Cleaning a clear bowling ball is no different than cleaning a solid colored bowling ball. The only difference is more dirt will show up on a clear one, so for the sake of aesthetics, it's good to keep it clean lest you end up bowling with a noticeably grimy ball. It can also affect your game if the ball accumulates too much dirt and grease. Cleaning a clear bowling ball should be done every two to three weeks if you bowl regularly or when it becomes noticeably dirty.
Step 1
Cover the holes on the bowling ball with a sturdy tape to prevent water from getting in and seeping into the ball.
Step 2
Place the bowling ball in a 5-gallon bucket. If your sink is deep enough to put the ball in and completely submerge it, that is fine.
Step 3
Fill the bucket or sink with a mixture of one part Simple Green to four parts hot water.
Step 4
Allow the ball to soak for five to 10 minutes if it has been awhile since the last washing and the ball has been used frequently.
Step 5
Use a nylon brush to scrub the ball clean of any oils or grease.
Step 6
Rinse the ball in clear, warm water and dry it with a soft, clean towel.
Tips and Warnings
- A scoop of laundry detergent is an acceptable substitute for Simple Green.
- Wear gloves when cleaning the ball to avoid any skin irritation from Simple Green.
