Jojoba oil is a wax ester that is extracted from the seeds of the jojoba tree. It is considered to be very similar to human sebum, or oil, and this can help balance the oil production of your skin. It is also thought to be non-comedogenic, which means it will not clog your pores. According to the Purdue University Alternative Field Crops Manual, jojoba oil does not go rancid quickly, is non-toxic and biodegradable. Always consult your dermatologist before using jojoba oil for skin conditions and irritations.
Lip Balm
You can use jojoba oil to protect your lips from dryness by placing a few drops on your fingertips and applying it onto your lips. Jojoba oil will not clog the pores in your lips as many other commercial lip balms do. Jojoba oil can also help prevent chapped lips due to cold weather.
Moisturizer
Your skin will absorb jojoba oil quickly, and it can be added to your facial moisturizer to enhance its moisturizing properties and prevent extreme dryness to give your skin a smooth and healthy texture.
Hair Conditioner
Adding five to eight drops of jojoba oil to your hair conditioner when applying it while showering will make your hair feel softer. You can also use it alone on damp hair to make it look shinier. As the jojoba oil also provides moisture, it will help prevent and fight dandruff.
Carrier Oil for Massage
Jojoba oil works as an effective carrier oil for therapeutic essential oils used for massage. Add a few drops of the essential oil of your choice to a 2-oz. bottle of jojoba oil and use it on any area of your skin. Jojoba oil spreads easily so you will only need a few drops for a large area of skin.
Make-up Remover
Jojoba oil is non-allergenic and it is not irritating to the eyes, making it a good alternative for eye make-up remover. Its soft and oily texture also makes it beneficial for removing any other type of make-up, including lipstick, foundation and blush. Its moisturizing properties are an added bonus to this application of jojoba oil.
Shaving
Use jojoba oil to shave in order to prevent razor burns. It is useful for shaving men's beards if used underneath the shaving cream, and for women who shave their underarms, legs and bikini line. After shaving your pores are open and could potentially become clogged or infected; you can further protect your skin by smothering more jojoba oil following your shave.
