The FitBALL is a stability ball that is used for personal fitness training, and by physical therapists for balance and sensory training as well as physical rehabilitation, according to its manufacturer, Ball Dynamics. The American College of Sports Medicine reports that using a stability ball can help improve muscle strength and stability, flexibility and overall physical performance. To ensure maximum safety and use the FitBALL efficiently, it needs to be properly inflated. Blowing up a FitBALL is the same process as inflating any generic exercise ball.
Step 1
Inflate your FitBALL in temperatures between 65 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Inflating the ball in temperatures outside of this range can affect air expansion.
Step 2
Remove the FitBALL from its packaging and lay it out flat on the floor.
Step 3
Locate the plug in the ball and remove it.
Step 4
Insert the tip of the pump, or compressor, into the hole so that it is snug in the hole and no air can escape around it. Begin pumping, or turn on the compressor.
Step 5
Pump the ball up until you can press your finger on it and cause it to indent 2 inches.
Step 6
Discontinue pumping and swiftly remove the pump, then insert the plug into the hole.
Step 7
Test the ball to see if you have the proper firmness. Sit on the ball and place your feet flat on the floor. If the ball is inflated to the proper level for you, there will be a 90 degree angle between your hips and your knees. If there is not a 90 degree angle, adjust accordingly by letting out or adding more air.
Step 8
Leave the exercise ball alone for 24 hours before using. Test the air pressure by sitting on the ball or making sure you can press in 2 inches when the ball is fully deflated.
Tips and Warnings
- You may need to occasionally top off your FitBALL with more air, depending upon how often you use it.
- Never over-inflate your FitBALL beyond the diameter indicated on the label.
Things You'll Need
