According to the Firm’s website, the Firm exercise programs started in 1979 when the studio opened in South Carolina. Instructors developed Synergy Training that mixed light weights with aerobic routines to help participants “burn fat, build muscle, and get the bodies they wanted.” The system includes a variety of programs that are available on DVD so that the user can do the workouts at home.
Aerobic
Aerobic exercise burns calories and improves cardiovascular fitness. The Firm claims that its “revolutionized aerobic workouts for women” combine light weights for muscle sculpting with hard intervals to increase intensity and burn more calories during and after the workout. Upper body moves include bicep curls and overhead press, and lower body moves include dips and lunges. Programs that you can purchase on DVD from the website include the “Ultimate Fat Burning Workout,” “Cardio Inferno,” and “Bootcamp: Maximum Calorie Burn.”
Toning
The Firm programs include a number of moves that focus on improving strength. Together, these moves combine in routines that the Firm claims “will shape your body from head to toe.” Chest flys and hamstring curls are examples of upper and lower body moves that are for toning muscle. You can use the CardioWeights along with the aerobic workouts to get the double benefits of aerobic and toning workouts. Other toning programs come in kits such as the “Slim and Sculpt Stability Ball Kit,” the “Fat-Burning Sculpting Ball Kit,” the “Sculpt and Tone Pilates Kit,” and the “Fat-Burning Cardio Sculpt Kit.”
Core Toning
As an exercise system that targets women, the Firm advertises core workouts that “get rid of those extra inches around your waist,” battle “belly bulge,” and help “tighten flabby abs after pregnancy.” These workouts use a variety of techniques and equipment to focus on different muscle groups for core strength. Core moves on the stability ball include crunches and leg lifts. Kits that the Firm markets for core toning are the “Core and Upper Body Sculpting Kit” and the “Slim and Sculpt Stability Ball Kit.”
