The ovaries are a pair of organs that are an intricate part of the female reproductive system. They're located in the pelvis and sit on either side of the uterus. The ovaries' role is to produce, house and release eggs in the Fallopian tubes for ovulation, which sets the stage for conception. The ovaries also produce female hormones that manage cellular and organ function, according to Women’s Health.gov. Certain herbs may encourage ovarian health. Talk to your doctor about taking herbal remedies, which are exempt from Food and Drug Administration regulation.

Chasteberry

Chasteberry or vitex is a traditional herb that's been used for hundreds of years to help regulate female hormones. Vitex has been suggested as an herbal remedy for hormonal imbalances, ovarian irregularities and infertility. Chatesberry may help regulate the pituitary gland, particularly its role in the function of the female hormone progesterone, according to Ovulation Calender.com. Talk to your doctor before taking chasteberry for ovarian health.

Green Tea

Green tea may improve the survival rate of women with ovarian cancer, according to the UMMC. A study published in November 2004 in the International Journal of Cancer concluded that increasing the consumption of green tea may enhance epithelial ovarian cancer or EOC survival. EOC is a disease in which malignant cells form in the tissue that lines the ovary.

The study was led by M. Zhang of the School of Public Health, Curtin University of Technology, Perth, WA, Australia. Consult your doctor about the possible benefits of green tea for ovarian cancer.

Saw Palmetto

Women with polycystic ovary disease or POD may benefit from taking saw palmetto, according to the UMMC. POD disrupts hormones that help control the normal development of eggs in the ovaries. This condition is typically diagnosed in women younger than 40.

Saw Palmetto may mimic the effects of certain hormones and should not be used by women who have had hormone-related cancers or are pregnant or nursing. Ask your doctor about the safety of taking saw palmetto for ovarian health.

Cinnamon and Rehmannia

A combination of cinnamon and rehmannia was first used nearly 300 years ago in Chinese medicine as an herbal remedy for ovarian cysts, according to the Institute of Traditional Medicine. Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs or pockets that develop on the ovary. These harmless pockets are usually painless and generally disappear within a few months. Check with your health practitioner about taking cinnamon or rehmannia for female reproductive health.
