There are three brands of prescription testosterone cream in the United States: Androgel, Testim and First Testosterone. Men whose bodies do not produce enough testosterone naturally may have a condition called hypogonadism, and may warrant the prescription of a testosterone cream. Testosterone creams deliver additional testosterone to the body through topical application directly on the skin.

Androgel

Androgel is a daily testosterone replacement therapy that intends to return a man's testosterone levels to normal and sustain them there. This cream is clear, quick drying and odorless and comes in either an easy to use pump or packet. Since 2001, doctors have written more than 12 million prescriptions of Androgel, making this the number one testosterone replacement therapy on the market. Patients must follow the recommended instructions for use exactly and women and children must avoid contact with Androgel.

Testim

Testim can provide your body with the same type of testosterone it naturally produces as well as return those testosterone levels to normal. This product delivers testosterone to the bloodstream through application on the skin. Testim improves symptoms of low testosterone including lack of muscle mass, sexual desire and bone mineral density; it also boosts sexual performance. Similar to Androgel, Testim is for use by men only and should be kept out of reach of children. Women should also avoid contact with Testim.
